DATABASE  LAST  UPDATED 06-Feb-2006

Welcome to this website. How to use the database is explained on the index overview page.

From time to time this site will be updated but it will be on an adhoc basis and you will need check the names you are looking for against the surname index.

You can contact me via the Web Master. However, the volume of mail is such that only enquiries pertaining to this web site can be answered. It is always helpful to give as much information as possible. This is especially true if you are unsure of a link to this database.

Due to this web site being taken advantage of by genealogical web crawlers (yes, they do exist) and by others who have released to the world sensitive information, this web site does not contain anyone born after 1925 and restricts data born between 1911 and 1925. Download the complete index on all surnames for further information. Note, this file is zipped. This index allows you to search for names. It will not give you any relationships to others. If you find a match then please contact the Web Master.

NEWS

This latest update (06-Feb-2006) contains a very large update on the MAIDMENT side of the family. Most of this work has been done by four or five researchers and I hasten to add not much by me. What I have done is to link them all together to create one big MAIDMENT family. That still took me 13 months of steady work through hundreds of individuals. Please remember that you do not see individual notes or research information or people born after 1911. If you want this information then you will need to contact us. We do our best to ensure there are no mistakes but as this tree goes back to 1470 it is inevitable that there is going to be errors. Please do not accept the information at face value. It is supplied for guidance only and needs to be checked against real records.

Although the MAIDMENT family is the the biggest update there are some 50 other family names that have been added or updated. In all over 1000 updates or additions since March 2005.

Main Families and Countries Involved.

Over the years two very significant parts of the family have emerged. Firstly, the Ingrouille branch of the family came from the Channel Island of Guernsey and this has led to the data base breaking away to other branches of island families. These have been recorded because of the constant intermarriages of surnames this island has. So, anyone who has connections with the Channel Islands but particularly Guernsey would do well to start here as I have gone overboard with tracing the links to other Guernsey Families.

Secondly, there is a large slice of the Maidment family that lived on the county borders of Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset in this database. Including a line to Canada and a line to Australia.

The Hayden's in question are from Essex and Hampshire in England with two branches that emigrated to Australia. With one branch splitting again to New Zealand. Unfortunately tracing the Haydens back before 1800 is rather difficult as they wouldn't stay in one place long enough.

If you have Canadian connections especially in the Gaspé or Prince Edward Island regions then many families emigrated there from Guernsey. I have recorded some of these names but not duplicated the work from Marion Turks book called The Quite Adventurers in Canada. And neither would I want to as it is a very thick book.

I have been researching my family for the past 20 years. I am a member of the Society of Genealogist, The Channel Islands Family History Society and La Société Guernesiaise. I can be found in the 2000 Genealogical Research Directory.

Although I am currently concentrating on parental lines, these web pages represent years of much wider research by myself and many others.
